To prove ZIP System products are up to the challenges of Mother nature, our scientists use testing measures which replicate extreme conditions.
Wind driven rain test – TAS 100
In this test ZIP System panels and tape are exposed to 110 mph wind driven rain to test the water protection properties of the system. Not only do ZIP System products pass with flying colors they also outperform many of the traditional housewrap and felt systems that rip and blow off in these conditions. We did not stop there. Knowing that products are exposed to the environment during the construction phase, we ran this test again with an assembly that had been exposed to the elements for 548 days. Again, ZIP products stood up to these extremes.
Water Resistance Test - ASTM 331
This test replicates rain that a roof and wall system must withstand during the construction phase where the product is exposed. In addition to applying water spray at 32mph, a vacuum is applied to the back side of the roof/wall to try to force a failure. ZIP System products, once again, passed this test with ease. Following the code prescribed testing, ZIP was tested and passed at more than double the required pressure for five times the required duration.
Water Ponding Test
To demonstrate the ability of ZIP System panels and tape to hold out moisture, the water ponding test was developed to simulate extreme exposure to water and pressure. In this test ZIP System panels and tape were subjected to 1” of standing water for over 20 hours. Both seams and fastener penetrations were monitored for water leakage. Even with this extreme exposure, ZIP Panels and tape maintained a tight seal to achieve ultimate home moisture resistance.
