ZIP System® Roof and Wall Sheathing
Receive NAHB National Green Building Approval

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (May 12, 2009) – Huber Engineered Woods LLC, leading manufacturer of innovative building solutions, has earned the NAHB (National Association of Home Builders) Research Center Green Approved mark for its AdvanTech® flooring and ZIP System® roof and wall sheathing. This approval verifies that  ZIP System roof and wall sheathing are eligible to contribute points toward the certification of a building under the NAHB National Green Building Standard™.

“ZIP System roof and wall sheathing is the first combination structural panel, moisture barrier and air barrier to receive the NAHB Research Center Green Approved mark,” stated Meredith Murchison, ZIP System general manager of Huber Engineered Woods. “Since ZIP System roof and wall sheathing combines the sheathing with a water-resistive barrier, it eliminates the step of applying housewrap or felt and provides a tight air-barrier assembly for a high performance building envelope.”

ZIP System panels are installed like other OSB (oriented strand board) or plywood panels and the seams of the panels are taped using the ZIP System™ tape to create moisture resistance for seams, valleys and ridges. The combination of these factors provides reduced air flow, offers superior moisture protection and provides an instant 120-day rough dry-in, allowing builders to schedule subcontractors sooner to complete the house in less time.

“The NAHB Research Center Green Approved mark is intended to assist builders, designers, and specifiers in identifying products that can contribute points toward green building certification,” stated Mike Luzier, president, NAHB Research Center. “The AdvanTech flooring and ZIP System roof and wall sheathing met the criteria for specific green practices in the National Green Building Standard, and now builders can enjoy the benefits as they seek NAHB Green Certification on future homes.”

Huber Engineered Woods received NAHB Research Center Green Approved marks for its AdvanTech® flooring and ZIP System® roof and wall sheathing at the NAHB Green Building Conference in Dallas on May 10.
