IRVING, Texas (July 8, 2009) – Huber Engineered Woods LLC, leading manufacturer of innovative building solutions, is providing its ZIP System® roof and wall sheathing for the first new University of Dallas student housing facility built since 1980. Architects on the 130,383 square-foot project specified ZIP System roof and wall sheathing because the products provide a clean job site and are easier and faster to install.
“Building a facility of this size on campus needs to happen quickly and with as little disruption to the learning environment as possible,” said specifier, David Demarest of Architecture Demarest in Dallas. “By using the ZIP System roof and wall sheathing, we eliminate the entire step of installing house wrap and felt over panels, In addition, we don’t have to deal with the visual and quality issues associated with torn housewrap or felt.”
A private Catholic institution of higher learning founded in 1956, the University of Dallas is adding to its 30-building, 744-acre campus with this new residence hall. The 128-unit facility will consist of three-person suites, two-person suites, single rooms and resident assistant rooms, as well as common areas, study lounges and a media entertainment room. Built over an underground parking garage, the residence hall will help house a portion of the 3,250 students that attend the University of Dallas. The project is scheduled to be completed in December 2009.
The ZIP System® wall panel with a built-in protective barrier is a code recognized structural wall panel, moisture barrier and air barrier all-in-one, providing a tight envelope and curb appeal during the construction process. ZIP System® tape provides moisture protection for seams, valleys and ridges, can help reduce air leaks as recommended by the Seal and Insulate with the ENERGY STAR® effort and is code recognized as window and door flashing tape when used with ZIP System Wall (ESR-2227).
ZIP System® roof panels have a built-in protective moisture barrier and eliminate the need for felt paper and H-clips. A code recognized structural panel and underlayment all-in-one, ZIP System roof panels prevent expensive rework due to torn felt, and shingles or tiles can be applied directly to the panels. Since the system is faster to install than traditional methods and provides an instant 120-day rough dry-in, it allow builders to schedule subcontractors sooner, ultimately completing the project in less time.
Both ZIP System roof and wall sheathing provide a 120-day exposure guarantee and are backed by limited 15-year system and 30-year panel warranties.
