AdvanTech® Flooring and ZIP System® Roof and Wall Sheathing Help Dreams Come True For Atlanta Builder

In 2008, Jim Bankes, president of Jim Bankes Inc., was building the 2008 Atlanta Magazine Dream Home in the humid Georgia climate and selected AdvanTech® and ZIP System® products for their barrier properties.

“The house was about 13,000 square feet, so I needed flooring and sheathing products that could be exposed for a long period of time, stated Bankes. “I was enticed by the 300-day no sand guarantee for AdvanTech flooring and the 120-day dry-in for ZIP System roof and wall sheathing.”

“Moisture problems, like delamination of plywood subflooring, used to be a concern, but I feel like the use of AdvanTech flooring has eliminated those hassles,” stated Bankes.

AdvanTech flooring offers superior moisture resistance, superior strength and stiffness due to its advanced resin technology. In addition to the 300-day no sanding guarantee, it is backed by a 50-year limited warranty so builders and homeowners have greater confidence in the long-term performance of the product. All of these benefits help to provide builders and homeowners a quiet, stiff floor.

Prior to using ZIP System products, Bankes experienced delays in construction due to issues with housewrap and felt paper. “Ripping and tearing of housewrap and felt paper used to be a major problem for me,” stated Bankes. “If water gets into a house’s roof or walls, it can pose hazardous problems, like mold, for the resulting home. Since my houses are large and are exposed to the weather for several months, it is even more important to prevent problems like this on the front end and avoid rework.”

ZIP System wall and roof sheathing are structural panels that have built-in protective barriers which eliminate the need for felt or housewrap. The seams of the panels are taped using ZIP System™ tape, creating moisture resistance for seams, valleys and ridges, which provides reduced air flow and improves energy efficiency. ZIP System roof and wall sheathing expedites installation, prevents rework and provides an instant 120-day rough dry-in, allowing builders to schedule subcontractors sooner to complete the house in less time.

“I believe the ZIP System products are easier and faster to install than traditional OSB (oriented strand board) and housewrap or felt,” stated Bankes. “I also think that they make the house look nice and clean during construction to give it a more professional appearance, which is very beneficial with high-end customers.”

As a high-end, custom builder, Bankes continues to use AdvanTech flooring and ZIP System roof and wall sheathing on his builds. “By using weather-resistant building materials, I believe my company is providing customers with homes that will stand the test of time and make them happy for many, many years.”
